Can a courier deliver to Ryde on the same day?
Yes. Our driver takes a van across the Solent on the vehicle ferry and delivers straight to your Ryde address, usually the same day from London and most of southern England. Collections from Ryde go back over the same way. The ferry fare is included in the fixed price, and the same driver handles the job from start to finish.
The Solent Is the Only Real Obstacle
Ryde is the Isle of Wight’s biggest town and its main gateway from Portsmouth, but for a delivery van the route is not the pier or the hovercraft. Those carry foot passengers. Vehicles cross on the car ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, a couple of miles west of Ryde, which Wightlink says takes around 45 minutes and carries everything from motorcycles to lorries. Red Funnel’s Southampton to East Cowes route is the other main option.
Parcel networks usually treat the island as a separate zone, with longer delivery promises and extra charges. A courier to Ryde that simply puts one van on the ferry avoids both. The consignment stays with the same driver throughout, and the only extra time is the crossing itself plus check-in.
How a Ryde Job Works
From the mainland. We collect from you, drive to Portsmouth or Southampton, check in for the next suitable sailing, cross, and deliver in Ryde. From London that is typically four to five hours door to door, depending on sailings.
From Ryde. We collect in Ryde, cross to the mainland and drive direct. Portsmouth, Southampton and Chichester are quick once ashore, and London is comfortably same day for a morning collection.
On the island. Ryde to Newport, Cowes, Sandown or Shanklin is a short drive, and we do island-only jobs too.

Realistic Timings
| Journey | Typical door to door |
|---|---|
| Portsmouth to Ryde | 1 hour 30 minutes including crossing and check-in |
| Southampton to Ryde | 2 hours via East Cowes |
| Guildford to Ryde | 2 hours 45 minutes |
| London to Ryde | 4 to 5 hours |
| Ryde to Newport | 20 minutes |
Timings depend on the sailing we can get on. Summer weekends and bank holidays are the busiest, and bad weather can occasionally disrupt crossings. We check before quoting and tell you straight if the timetable makes a deadline tight.
Ryde Courier FAQs
Is the ferry fare extra?
No. The cost of taking the van across is built into the fixed price we quote. You see one figure before booking, and nothing is added afterwards.
Why not use the hovercraft or the FastCat to Ryde?
They carry passengers, not vans. For anything heavier than a small parcel, and to keep it with one driver throughout, we use the vehicle ferry to Fishbourne or East Cowes and drive the last few miles.
Can you collect from Ryde and deliver to London the same day?
Yes, for a morning collection. Allowing for the crossing and the drive, London deliveries usually arrive in the afternoon or early evening.
Do you cover the rest of the Isle of Wight?
Yes. Newport, Cowes, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Yarmouth and Freshwater are all covered. We plan the crossing to suit the part of the island you need.
What if the ferry is cancelled?
It is rare, but high winds occasionally disrupt sailings. If that happens, we switch to another route where possible, tell you immediately, and agree a new delivery time with you.
