Do you offer a chilled or refrigerated courier service?
Yes, for temperature-critical consignments moved same day on a dedicated vehicle. Tell us the required temperature range and whether the load is chilled or frozen when you book, and we will confirm the handling before the job is accepted rather than after the van has left.
Temperature-controlled delivery is really a time problem wearing a different hat. Almost nothing fails because a vehicle was slightly too warm for a moment. It fails because the consignment spent four hours on a hub floor, then a night in a trailer, then a morning waiting for a local round.
That is the thing a chilled courier on a dedicated vehicle removes entirely. Collected from you, driven direct, delivered by the same driver. The time out of control is the drive time and nothing else, which is usually the whole difference between a consignment that arrives in spec and one that does not.
What We Carry Temperature-Controlled
Food and ingredients
Chilled and frozen stock between production sites, kitchens, restaurants and events. Shortfalls that would otherwise take a service off the menu tonight.
Pharmaceuticals
Chilled and ambient pharmaceutical consignments where the time window matters as much as the temperature. See our medical and pharmaceutical courier service for clinical work.
Laboratory and samples
Specimens, reagents and test material moving between sites, labs and research facilities on a defined window.
Cosmetics and personal care
Heat-sensitive stock and formulations that degrade or separate above a threshold, particularly through summer.
Horticulture and florals
Cut flowers, plants and seasonal stock where a warm van costs you the whole consignment rather than part of it.
Events and catering
Chilled product to a venue with a fixed service time, often at a weekend or overnight. See weekend courier.
Temperature-Critical Job Today?
Tell us the range, the contents and the deadline. We confirm the handling before we take the booking, not afterwards.
Why Direct Beats a Refrigerated Network
A temperature-controlled network is not a bad thing. It is simply built for volume, and volume means consolidation points, and every consolidation point is a door that opens.
Count the handovers on a typical network journey: collection round, hub intake, sort, outbound trailer, second hub, local round. Each one is a moment when the consignment is on a bay rather than in a controlled space, and none of them appear on the tracking. Ambient exposure is cumulative and it is exactly what the cold chain is supposed to prevent.
A dedicated van has two of those moments: loading and unloading. That is the entire argument, and for a same day consignment it is usually decisive.
What We Need From You at Booking
Temperature work goes wrong at the enquiry stage far more often than on the road, so we ask four things up front.
| What we ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The temperature range | Chilled and frozen are different jobs with different handling. “Cold” is not a specification. |
| What is actually inside | Food, pharmaceutical, laboratory and cosmetic loads carry different requirements and different paperwork. |
| How it is packed | Whether the consignment arrives to us in validated insulated packaging, and who supplied it. |
| The window at the far end | A perfectly handled delivery that arrives to a closed goods-in door has still failed. |
If what you need is outside what we can genuinely do, we will say so at that point rather than take the booking and hope. A specialist cold chain operator is the right answer for some consignments, and we would rather tell you than find out at the delivery end.
Same Day, Overnight and Weekend Cover
Temperature-critical work rarely respects office hours. Production runs overnight, events happen at weekends, and a failed chiller at five o’clock on a Friday is a problem that has to be solved before Monday.
We run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so an overnight collection for a morning delivery or a Saturday and Sunday run is a standard booking rather than an exception. For consignments already past the point of being urgent, see emergency courier.
Coverage is the whole of the UK, including Northern Ireland, though a sea crossing changes what is realistic on timing and we will tell you plainly what that means for a temperature-critical load.
Chilled & Refrigerated Courier FAQs
Can you carry frozen as well as chilled?
Tell us the required range when you enquire and we will confirm what we can do for that specific consignment before accepting it. Frozen and chilled are genuinely different jobs, and the honest answer depends on the temperature, the duration and how the load is packed. We would rather establish that in the first two minutes than at the delivery door.
How much does a chilled courier service cost?
It is priced on the vehicle and the distance like any dedicated job, with the handling requirement factored in. There is no per-item cold surcharge added afterwards. You get one fixed all-inclusive figure before booking, covering the van, driver, fuel and any congestion or clean air charge.
Do you provide the insulated packaging?
For most consignments the packaging is supplied or specified by the sender, particularly for pharmaceutical work where validated shippers are part of your own quality process. Tell us what you are using at booking. If you need us to carry insulated packaging for a job, ask when you enquire and we will confirm what is available.
How do you keep time out of control to a minimum?
By removing the steps where it accumulates. There is no hub, no sort, no overnight trailer and no second local round. The consignment is loaded once, driven direct and unloaded once, so the exposure is the journey itself. We also monitor transit times so the actual duration is recorded rather than assumed.
Can you deliver chilled goods at the weekend or overnight?
Yes, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year including bank holidays. Overnight and weekend running is often better for temperature work anyway, because the roads are clearer and the journey is shorter. The thing to check is who will be at the receiving end to take it in.
Is a temperature-critical consignment insured?
Goods-in-transit and public liability cover run on every job as standard. For high-value or perishable loads, declare the value when you book so we can confirm in writing what is covered before the vehicle moves. Perishable stock is often worth more than people assume once a whole consignment is written off.
What if my consignment needs full validated cold chain compliance?
Say so at the enquiry stage. Some consignments need a specialist cold chain operator with continuous monitoring, calibration records and full GDP documentation, and where that is the case we will tell you rather than take the work. Being straight about the boundary is more useful to you than winning a booking we should not have.
