Large Item Courier for Heavy, Long and Awkward Loads

Too big for a parcel network, too urgent to wait a week. As a dedicated large parcel courier we take the bulky, heavy and over-length loads a network will not. We move large items on a dedicated van with a driver who loads it once, straps it properly and drives it straight to the door, often the same day you call.

    Quick answer

Which courier takes large and heavy items?

Most parcel networks stop at around 30kg and 1.2m, and refuse anything longer or heavier. A dedicated large item courier has no conveyor and no size band to fit: your item goes straight into a van sized for it, is handled twice rather than eight times, and can be collected within the hour and delivered the same day, anywhere in the UK.

    Why a dedicated van

Why Large Parcels Fail on a Normal Network

A parcel network is a sorting machine. Your item is tipped onto belts, slid down chutes and stacked in cages between depots, and it is designed around a box a single person can lift. Anything long, heavy or oddly shaped either gets surcharged, gets refused, or gets broken.

A heavy parcel is not a special case for us, it is the normal job. Standard courier limits usually sit at about 30kg, a longest side around 1.2m and a combined length and girth cap that rules out most flat-packed furniture, exhibition stands, machine parts, worktops and lengths of pipe or timber. Go past it and you hit oversized surcharges that can cost more than a dedicated van would have, with none of the control.

We work the other way round. Your large item is the only thing in the vehicle. It is loaded at collection, secured, and not touched again until it is unloaded at the far end by the same driver. There is no depot, no overnight trailer and no second handling, which is exactly where damage to big awkward items comes from.

    What we move

The Large and Heavy Items We Carry Most

If one or two people can get it into a van, we can almost certainly move it today. Common loads include:

    Furniture and flat-pack

Sofas, desks, wardrobes, tables, shop fittings and office furniture, moved between homes, showrooms and offices without waiting for a two-week delivery slot. See our man and van service if you need help carrying as well.

    Long items

Timber, pipe, tube, worktops, guttering, ladders, curtain poles, surfboards and anything else past the 1.2m mark that a network will not take. Our LWB van handles most long loads.

    Heavy single items

Machine parts, engines, gearboxes, compressors, safes, tooling and other large goods where the problem is weight rather than size. A tail-lift Luton removes the lifting problem entirely.

    White goods and appliances

Fridges, freezers, washing machines, range cookers and commercial catering kit, kept upright and strapped rather than stacked on a cage.

    Exhibition and event kit

Stand panels, display units, banner cases, staging and AV flight cases for build days that will not wait. More on our events courier service.

    Pallets and crates

One to five pallets, crated machinery and palletised stock on a dedicated vehicle rather than a network. See same day pallet delivery.

Anything fragile or high in value, like artwork, glass, instruments or prototypes, is better booked as a fragile and high-value courier job so it gets the extra protection it needs.

Got Something Too Big for a Normal Courier?

Tell us the rough dimensions and weight. We’ll tell you which van it needs and what it costs, as one fixed all-inclusive price, before you commit.

    Sizing

Matching a Large Item to the Right Van

The cheapest large item delivery is the one on the smallest van that genuinely fits. We ask for rough dimensions and weight up front so you are not paying for empty space, and so the driver arrives with the right kit.

    SWB Van

Single large boxes, small furniture and loads a network would surcharge but that still fit a standard van floor.

    LWB Van

The workhorse for long items. Extra floor length takes timber, worktops, poles and flat-packed furniture.

    Luton with Tail Lift

Up to five pallets and roughly 1,000kg payload. The tail lift matters whenever an item cannot be lifted by hand.

    Two-person crews

Where an item is heavy or awkward rather than simply big, we send a second pair of hands instead of hoping for help at the door.

    How it works

What Happens When You Book a Large Item Delivery

    1. Tell us the size

Rough length, width, height and weight, plus whether there are stairs, a lift or a loading bay at either end. Approximate is fine; it just has to be honest.

    2. Get a fixed price

One all-inclusive figure covering the vehicle, driver, fuel, congestion and Clean Air Zone charges. No oversized surcharge appears afterwards.

    3. Collected and delivered

Typically collected within 30 to 60 minutes in London, then driven direct. You get the driver’s progress and photographed proof of delivery at the far end.

    FAQs

    Large Item Courier FAQs

What counts as a large item for a courier?

In practice, anything a standard parcel network will not take. That usually means over about 30kg, longer than roughly 1.2m on any side, or an awkward shape that cannot sit safely on a conveyor. If you have been quoted an oversized surcharge or had a booking refused as too bulky, it is a large parcel courier job.

How much does a large item courier cost?

There is no fixed rate, because the price depends on the van size the item needs, the distance and whether a tail lift or a second person is required. You are hiring a vehicle rather than buying a slot, so short local runs are often close to a heavily surcharged network price, and long runs are priced per journey. Tell us the dimensions and route and you get one fixed figure up front.

What is the maximum size and weight you can take?

Our largest vehicle is a Luton with a tail lift, which carries up to five pallets and around 1,000kg. Within that, length is usually the real constraint rather than weight. Give us the longest dimension and we will tell you straight away whether it fits, and what the options are if it does not.

Can you deliver a large item the same day?

Yes, that is the normal way we run. Collection across Greater London is typically within 30 to 60 minutes of booking, and the item is then driven direct rather than routed through a depot. Elsewhere in the UK it depends on where the nearest suitable vehicle is, and we tell you a realistic time before you book.

Will the driver help load and unload?

Yes, for anything one person can safely handle. Where an item is genuinely heavy or awkward, tell us when you book and we send a two-person crew or a tail-lift vehicle rather than leaving it to chance at the door.

Are large and heavy items insured in transit?

Every job runs under goods-in-transit and public liability cover as standard. If the item is high in value, tell us the figure at booking so we can confirm the level of cover in writing before the van moves.

Do you deliver large items to residential addresses?

Yes. Furniture, appliances and flat-pack to homes is routine work. Let us know about stairs, narrow access, parking restrictions or a lift at either end when you book, because that decides the vehicle and the crew rather than being a problem discovered on arrival.

Which Vehicle Will Your Job Need?
