Overnight Courier: Direct Delivery, Whatever the Hour

Most networks stop when the sun goes down. Ours doesn’t. Book a dedicated van and driver for a night collection, a through-the-night run, or a delivery that has to land before the doors open.

    Quick answer

What does an overnight courier from Same Day Delivery Courier include?

Your overnight courier is one dedicated van and one driver, working for you alone. Collection is typically within 30–60 minutes of booking, the drive runs direct with no depot or sorting hub in between, and you get photo or signature proof of delivery the moment the job’s done. It’s available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across London and the rest of the UK, for one fixed price agreed before the driver sets off.

Book an overnight courier with us and you get a single van and driver, not a slot in tonight’s sorting run. We collect after your business closes, drive straight through the night, and land before whatever deadline you’re working to, whether that’s a 6am line-side delivery in Coventry or a handover to a night-shift goods-in team in Leeds. There’s no hub and no handover along the way. Just one driver who knows exactly where your consignment is, because it’s still in the back of the van.

Why Businesses Choose to Run Overnight

    • Line-side by morning. Parts collected once production stops are ready and waiting before the first shift clocks on.
    • Retail replenishment. Stock reaches the shop floor before the doors open, avoiding daytime restrictions in busy town centres.
    • Monday-ready workshops. A weekend parts run means the job starts on time, not two hours late while someone chases a delivery.
    • Quiet-hours access. Data centres, hospital wards and city-centre sites that only accept deliveries outside normal hours.
    • Missed cut-offs. The network’s 6pm deadline has come and gone. We’re just getting started.

    What Happens After You Book

Booking works the same at 11pm as it does at 11am. Tell us what’s moving, where it’s going and by when, and a controller fixes a price on the spot before dispatching a driver, usually within 30 to 60 minutes. For bulkier loads we send an LWB van rather than a small van, so nothing gets left behind because the boot’s too small. From there the driver goes straight from collection to delivery with no depot in between, and you get photo or signature proof the moment it’s handed over.

    Genuinely Open All Night

Plenty of firms claim to be open 24/7 and really mean an answering machine. We don’t work that way. Ring at 2am and a real controller picks up, fixes your price and gets a driver moving there and then. Night work carries no hidden premium beyond the quote we agree up front, and you still get the same live updates and timestamped photo proof of delivery, which matters when the job happens while your own team’s asleep.

Collecting and Delivering from Closed Premises

Not every night job starts at a business that’s still open. We collect through keyholders, security desks and lockboxes, and deliver into night-shift goods-in, hotel concierges and 24-hour sites. Every arrangement gets confirmed in writing when you book, so there’s no confusion at 3am about who’s letting the driver in. If the situation is more urgent than simply out of hours, our emergency courier service covers the same-hour end of the scale.

    Why Daytime Isn’t Always Fastest

There’s a reason we run so much freight at night: daytime traffic is genuinely slower. TomTom’s 2025 Traffic Index puts the average 10km drive across London at around 43 minutes during evening rush hour, nearly double the roughly 24 minutes the same route takes at 2am. A van collecting in central London late in the evening can be well clear of the city before that daytime congestion even builds, then hold a steady pace for the rest of the run.

One Driver, Not a Sorting Hub

Most delivery networks are built around the working day. Research for the RAC Foundation found that only around 5% of van collections and deliveries in Great Britain happen at night, so out-of-hours freight often gets routed through a hub and held until the morning sort. A dedicated same day courier works differently: one driver, one vehicle, collection straight through to delivery, with nothing sitting in a depot waiting for anyone.

    Where We Run Overnight

London to the rest of the country is where we do most of our night work. A collection from Central London after the office empties out can be on a loading bay two hundred miles away well before breakfast.

Manchester is a regular overnight run for us, mostly production parts and retail stock that has to be on the shelf before the doors open.

Birmingham sits on the same corridor, and manufacturers there use us for runs that can’t wait for a morning courier slot.

Push further north to Glasgow and the drive takes longer, but a dedicated van doesn’t stop caring about your deadline just because the sat nav says six hours.

    FAQs

    Overnight Courier FAQs

Do you charge more for collections or deliveries at night?

No. Out-of-hours work is priced into the fixed quote you agree before the driver sets off, and nothing gets added afterwards. Plenty of networks add a night or weekend surcharge of anywhere from 25% to 100% on top of their daytime rate. Ours doesn’t work that way: the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.

Does my load go through a depot overnight, or does the same driver carry it the whole way?

The same driver and vehicle carry it the entire way, from collection to delivery. There’s no depot, no sorting hub and no handover to a different driver partway through the run, so your consignment isn’t sitting in a warehouse waiting for the next shift.

Can you guarantee a delivery before a specific time, such as 7am?

Yes. Because it’s a dedicated vehicle, we build the drive around your deadline with contingency time included, so before-7am and before-9am deliveries are routine rather than a rush. Tell us the time you need it, and we’ll plan the run to beat it.

How do you collect from a site once everyone’s gone home?

Through whatever arrangement suits your premises, whether that’s a keyholder, a security desk or an agreed lockbox. We confirm the details in writing at the time of booking, so the driver knows exactly who to contact and where to go on arrival.

What proof do I get for a delivery that happens in the middle of the night?

A timestamped photo of the delivery, plus a signature where someone’s there to receive it, emailed to you as soon as the job’s complete. It’s the same proof of delivery you’d get for a daytime run, just with a different timestamp on it.

Do you run overnight jobs on weekends and bank holidays?

Every day of the year, Christmas Day included. A Saturday night collection or a bank holiday delivery is quoted and handled exactly like any other overnight job, with a fixed price agreed up front and the same dedicated driver. Weekend and bank holiday rates are a little higher than weekdays, and that is shown in the quote.

Can you really collect and deliver in the middle of the night?

Yes. Our out-of-hours service runs around the clock, including overnight, early morning and weekend collections. A dispatcher is reachable at all times, not just during standard office hours, so a booking made at 1am gets the same response as one made at 1pm.

Does an overnight courier cost more than a daytime booking?

Out-of-hours jobs are usually priced slightly higher than standard daytime bookings to reflect night-time driver availability, but distance and vehicle size still drive most of the cost. Tell us the collection and delivery times when you get a quote and we’ll confirm the price upfront.

What if the delivery address is unattended overnight?

Let us know in advance if a site is unattended, gated or needs an access code, and we’ll agree a plan before the driver sets off, whether that’s a key safe, a named contact to call, or a specific drop-off point. Confirming this at the time of booking avoids a wasted trip.

How quickly can an overnight courier be booked?

Most out-of-hours jobs are collected within 60 minutes of booking, the same as our standard same day service. Because roads are quieter overnight, delivery across a city or between nearby towns is often faster than the equivalent daytime run.

Is overnight courier cover worth it for a business that only needs it occasionally?

If out-of-hours need comes up rarely, a one-off booking each time is usually the simplest option. Once it starts happening regularly, for example a factory with a recurring early shift start, a contract arrangement with agreed collection times is normally more cost-effective. Need something collected and delivered outside normal hours tonight? Get a same day courier quote and we’ll confirm collection within the hour.
