    Quick answer

How do I arrange a courier to collect an item?

To arrange courier collection, call us or use the quote form with three things: the collection address, the delivery address and when it has to arrive. Add a rough size and anything awkward about access. You get a fixed price, a driver is dispatched, and the item is collected from the door and delivered to the door by the same person, usually the same day.

    What it really means

Door to Door Should Actually Mean Door to Door

Most parcel services call themselves door to door, but in practice they are door to depot to depot to door. Your item leaves your hands, spends a night in a sorting hub and gets handed between several vans before anyone knocks at the other end. That is where things go wrong.

It goes wrong more often than people assume. Citizens Advice research published in 2025 found that 37% of people had a problem with their most recent parcel delivery, a record 15 million people, with problem rates at their highest in half a decade.

A door to door courier service in the literal sense removes the stages where those problems happen. The driver who collects your item is the driver who delivers it. It never goes into a hub, never waits on a loading bay and never changes hands, so there is nobody else to lose it, damage it or leave it in a bush.

    How it works

How to Arrange a Courier Collection in Four Steps

    1. What is it?

A rough description and size is enough. An envelope, a box, a guitar, a desk. It decides the vehicle, nothing more.

    2. Where from, where to?

Both full addresses, plus a phone number for whoever will be at each end. They do not have to be you.

    3. By when?

As soon as possible, by a fixed time, or on a particular day. Tell us the real deadline and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it.

    4. Anything awkward?

Stairs, no lift, tight parking, a gatehouse or a site induction. Better known now than discovered at the door.

That is the whole booking. You get one fixed all-inclusive price before anything moves, and you can book it with no account, no minimum volume and no contract.

    Need Something Picked Up Today?

Give us both addresses and the deadline. A driver can usually be at the collection address within the hour.

Collecting From an Address You Are Not At

A large share of collections are booked by somebody who is nowhere near the item. That is completely normal and it is one of the most useful things a courier can do.

Common examples: something you have bought from a private seller or on Marketplace, a laptop left at a relative’s house, stock sitting with a supplier, a repair ready at a workshop, an auction win that has to leave the saleroom by Friday, or paperwork that needs fetching from a client’s office. You book and pay, we collect from them, and we deliver to you or anywhere else you choose.

All we need is the name and phone number of whoever is releasing the item, and ideally a reference or order number they will recognise. We call ahead so they know we are coming, and you get photographed proof at both ends.

No Box, No Printer, No Label

Parcel networks need a label because the item passes through machines and several pairs of hands. A dedicated courier does not, because the same driver carries it the whole way and already knows where it is going. You do not need a printer, a label, a barcode or an account.

What you do need is for the item to survive being carried and strapped into a van. For most things that means a sealed box or a blanket. We carry removal blankets and straps as standard for larger items, so furniture and bulky goods can travel unboxed. If you are not sure whether something is packed well enough, describe it and we will tell you. For anything fragile or valuable, see our fragile and high-value courier service.

Pick Up and Drop Off, On Your Timetable

You can arrange a courier pick up for whenever suits the person handing the item over, not whenever a round happens to pass.

Pick Up and Drop Off, On Your Timetable
    OptionWhen it suits
As soon as possibleCollected within the hour across London, then driven direct. The default for anything urgent.
Timed collectionPicked up at a set time, for example when a shop opens or a seller is home from work.
Saturday or SundayPrivate collections at weekends, when people are actually at home.
Evening or overnightCollected after hours and delivered before the other end opens the next morning.

There is no separate drop-off point to find either. The driver drops the item off at the delivery address, and there is no locker or collection shop involved at either end.

    FAQs

    Arranging a Collection: Common Questions

How do I arrange a courier to collect an item?

Call us or use the quote form with the collection address, the delivery address and your deadline, plus a rough idea of size. We give you a fixed price, dispatch a driver and let the person at the collection address know we are on the way. There is no account to open and no label to print.

Can you collect from someone else’s address?

Yes, and it is one of the most common bookings we take. You book and pay, and we collect from a seller, a relative, a supplier or an auction house. Give us the name and number of whoever is releasing the item and a reference they will recognise, and we will call ahead.

Do I need to print a label?

No. Labels exist so machines and multiple handlers can route a parcel. Your item stays with one driver from collection to delivery, so the address simply goes on the booking. No printer, no barcode and no account needed.

Does the item need to be in a box?

It needs to survive being carried and strapped into a van. For small items a sealed box is best. For furniture and bulky goods we carry blankets and straps, so they can travel unboxed. If you are unsure, describe it and we will tell you before we come.

What happens if nobody is in at the collection address?

We call ahead to avoid exactly that. If the collection genuinely cannot happen when the driver arrives, we contact you straight away and agree what to do, rather than leaving a card and going away. Giving us a working phone number for each end prevents almost all of these.

Can you collect today, or on a Saturday?

Usually, yes. Across London a driver is typically at the collection address within the hour, and elsewhere we give you a realistic time before you book. We run 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, so weekend and evening collections are normal bookings.

How much does it cost, and is it insured?

You get one fixed all-inclusive price based on the vehicle and the distance, agreed before anything moves. Every job carries goods-in-transit and public liability cover as standard, with photographed proof at collection and delivery. For high-value items, tell us the figure when you book so we can confirm the cover in writing.
