What is multi-drop delivery?
Multi drop delivery is one van making several deliveries in a planned order, usually from a single collection. With us the same driver keeps the whole load from first pickup to last drop, the route is built around your delivery windows, and you get a photo or signature for each address rather than one receipt for the batch.
Why a Dedicated Van Beats a Round
A parcel network also runs multi drop rounds, but the round belongs to the network. Your shop in Croydon gets its delivery when the round reaches it, which might be after it opens or after the kitchen needed the stock. Consignments are sorted at a depot first, so items from one order can arrive on different days.
A dedicated multi-drop courier reverses that. The van is booked for your job, the stops run in the order that suits your deadlines, and everything that was loaded together stays together. If a site cannot take a delivery before ten, the driver goes elsewhere first and comes back.
Who Books Multi-Drop Runs
Wholesalers and suppliers
One warehouse pickup, then shops, restaurants or salons across a town or region. Cases, cartons and trays that need to land before opening.
Manufacturers and trade counters
Parts to several sites or engineers in a day, often with a return leg carrying items back for repair.
Offices and multi-site businesses
IT kit, stationery, marketing stock or signage to branches, with a named person signing at each one.
Events and exhibitions
Stands, samples and staff kit dropped at several venues or hotels, timed to load-in slots. See our events courier service.
Online sellers
A batch of local orders delivered the same day rather than handed to a network overnight. Our ecommerce delivery page covers the wider service.
Regular scheduled rounds
The same drops each week at the same times, priced as a standing arrangement through our contract courier service.
Several Drops in One Day?
Send the list and the time windows. We will plan the run and quote it as one job.
How a Run Is Planned
Send us the collection address and the list of drops, with a postcode, a contact and any time window for each. We work out a sensible order, tell you roughly when each address will be reached, and confirm the vehicle. Tight city drops may suit a small van that can park easily, while a run with pallets or heavy cases needs a tail-lift Luton.
During the day the driver is contactable directly, so if a shop closes early or a site changes its slot, the order can be rearranged rather than the delivery failing. Each drop is signed for or photographed as it happens.
| Type of run | Typical shape | Vehicle |
|---|---|---|
| City centre round | 6 to 12 small drops, tight parking, loading bays | Small van |
| Regional trade run | 4 to 8 drops across a county, mixed box sizes | SWB or LWB van |
| Palletised or heavy round | 2 to 5 drops, no forklift at the delivery end | Luton with tail lift |
What It Costs
A multi-drop run is priced as one job on the vehicle, the total mileage and the time the route takes, not as a set of separate deliveries. That is usually cheaper than booking each drop on its own, and it is always one fixed figure agreed before the van loads. Evening, weekend and bank holiday runs cost a little more than the same route on a weekday, included in the quote. Congestion Charge, ULEZ and tolls are covered too.
Multi-Drop Questions
How many drops can one van do in a day?
It depends far more on distance and access than on the number of parcels. A dozen central London drops is a full day once parking is counted; six spread across a county can be quicker. Send the list and we will tell you what fits.
Can you collect from several places as well?
Yes. A run can start with two or three collections, for example parts from different suppliers, before the delivery legs begin. Give us every address and we will sequence them.
Do I get proof for each delivery?
Yes, a photograph or signature per address with a time against it, not one receipt for the whole load. That matters when a customer later asks whether their drop arrived.
What happens if one address cannot take the delivery?
The driver calls you while still nearby. Depending on what you want, the item comes back, goes to another address on the run, or is attempted again later the same day.
Can you run the same route every week?
Yes. Regular rounds work well as a standing arrangement with a set price, the same timings, and where possible the same driver, which cuts down on explaining access every time.
