Do you cover the whole of Essex?
Yes, every postcode from Thurrock and Basildon up through Chelmsford and Harlow to Colchester and the coast. Collection is usually within the hour, and most of the county is close enough to London for a same day run in either direction with time to spare.
Essex has quietly become one of the most important places in the country for moving goods. DP World’s London Gateway passed three million TEU in 2025, growth of more than 52% on the year before, with a fourth berth now operational and a further £1bn being spent on two more. Tilbury sits a few miles upriver, and Stansted handles a substantial share of the UK’s air freight to the north of the county.
Around all that sits a dense band of distribution, light manufacturing and trade counters along the A12, A13 and M11. A courier service in Essex spends most of its time between those sites and London, and the job is almost always the last few miles rather than the long haul.
Same Day Courier Coverage Across Essex
We work the whole county. The Thames corridor through Thurrock, Grays, Purfleet and Basildon is the busiest part for us, feeding the terminals and the distribution parks around them. Chelmsford and Braintree sit in the middle on the A12, Harlow and the M11 corridor face north towards Stansted and Cambridge, and Colchester, Clacton and Southend cover the east and the coast.
Typical work is pallets and part-loads from the terminals inland, large or heavy items that a parcel network has refused, parts to workshops and hauliers, documents and originals into the City, and urgent airport and AOG runs to Stansted.

Typical Journey Times Across Essex

|---|---|

| Thurrock to the City | 50 minutes |

Road times for a dedicated van with a clear run. The Dartford Crossing, the A12 through Chelmsford and the M25 anticlockwise all move these figures, so we quote a real window at booking rather than a best case.
Port and Airport Work
Terminal collections are not like collecting from a trading estate. There is usually a gate process, a reference, sometimes a pass, and a window that does not move because you are running late.
We treat London Gateway, Tilbury, Harwich and Stansted collections as time-critical by default and ask for the operator, the reference and any access requirement up front. That is not paperwork for its own sake; it decides how early the driver has to leave, and getting it wrong wastes a slot that may not come round again the same day.
For consignments continuing overseas we are a UK courier rather than a freight forwarder. We will get your goods to the terminal, the forwarder or the handling agent on time and in one piece. The onward international leg is theirs.
Essex Courier FAQs
Do you collect from London Gateway, Tilbury or Harwich?
Yes, all three, and we treat them as time-critical by default. Give us the terminal, the operator, a reference and any gate pass requirement when you book. Terminal access rules decide the departure time far more than the mileage does, and a missed slot can cost you the rest of the day.
Can you do airport runs to Stansted?
Yes, including urgent AOG and flight-critical parts, plus documents to handling agents. See our airport courier service for how those jobs are handled, and tell us the handling agent and shed when you call.
How quickly can you collect in Essex?
Usually within the hour. The Thames corridor, Basildon and the Brentwood and Romford side are typically quickest because that is where our drivers tend to already be. Colchester, Clacton and the far north east depend on the nearest available vehicle, and we will give you a realistic number before you book.
Is Essex to London a same day job?
Almost always, and usually with hours to spare. Thurrock to the City is about 50 minutes and Chelmsford around an hour and a quarter. Congestion charge and any clean air charge are inside the fixed price rather than added afterwards.
Do you charge extra for the Dartford Crossing?
No. The Dart Charge is included in the fixed price we quote, along with fuel and any congestion or clean air charge on the route. You get one figure before booking and that is the figure you pay.
Is the consignment insured?
Every job runs under goods-in-transit and public liability cover as standard, with photographed proof of delivery. If you are moving something high in value, tell us the figure when you book so we can confirm the level of cover in writing first.
