Cumberland Council confirmed that the Carlisle Southern Link Road opened on 12 June, an 8km route joining junction 42 of the M6 with the A595. The council expects it to ease congestion, cut journey times and support St Cuthbert’s Garden Village on the southern edge of the city.
For a delivery heading to Wigton, Workington or Whitehaven, the van no longer threads through the city centre and along Dalston Road. It leaves the motorway at junction 42 and swings west. Getting from the south towards the coast is simpler, and so is reaching new homes and employment land as the garden village grows.
